Yasmine Rassouli is an Italian-Iranian artist, born on the 27th of February 1999 in Massafra, Italy. She recently graduated from City and Guilds of London Art School with a BA in Fine Art after completing her Foundation year at The Art Academy in London in 2020. Her work revolves around enigmatic figures and dreamscapes of the mind, which she explores with intuitive drawings and light washes of oil paint. Following her degree show, she conducted an immersive research solo trip to Scandinavia, with the focus on studying artists around the Symbolist Movement.
She has showed her work annually during her BA at City and Guilds, which gave her the possibility to be part of the curation team during her second year. Her art has been appreciated by art critic Tabish Khan. She has been selected to be an artist guest for the GS Wine opera and art event "Italian Summer Soireé" at St James Church, Islington.
"My body of work is heavily influenced and related to the dream world as well as Surrealism and Symbolism. I am interested in depicting the feeling and the memory of dreams and their ephemeral nature. Through the lens of a woman's perspective and experience, I depict figures suspended in a liminal state. In my creative journey, I explore the blurred boundaries between inner and outer reality, while using light and darkness to evoke a sense of mystery and introspection.
While playing with magical realism, I merge everyday objects and surroundings with the fantastical elements of dreams, infusing them with unspoken melancholy. My primary medium of choice is drawing, allowing me to convey my ideas, while painting gives me the freedom to explore a vivid palette and capture the elusive essence of dreams. This creative path could be seen as my way to understanding and interpreting the feeling of melancholia. When connecting it to my creative process, Melancholy opens me up to sensitivities that fuel my artistic journey."
